About Us

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CVSc&AH, Aizawl was established on the 16th November, 2006 under the umbrella of Central Agricultural University, Imphal and the foundation stone was laid by Dr. Mangla Rai, former Secretary DARE &DG ICAR. It startedfunctioning after joining of Dr. K.P. Chaudhary as Head of the Kendra and recruitment of the staff during 2007-08. As per Performance Assessment by NITI AAYOG, Govt. of India, KVK Aizawl has been ranked under Category “A. The jurisdiction of the Kendra is Aizawl District of Mizoram. In view of the Mandate, the main activities of the KVK, Aizawl are as under:

  • Conducting On Farm Testings (OFTs) for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
  • Organizing Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on various crops/livestock/fishes etc. as per need of the areas to generate production data and feedback information.
  • Organizing short and long term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied occasions for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on learning by doing for higher production on farms and generating self-employment.
  • Organizing Training programmes to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agriculture/allied on regular basis.
  • Under the Advisory services, the farmers are also been guided through Mobile services (SMSs, Phone calls), Scientists visit to farmers’ field and farmers’ visit to the KVK.

Infrastructure:

  • Administrative block with a plinth area of 550 sq m.
  • Trainees Hostel with a plinth area of 305 sq m.
  • Two demonstration unit of 160 sq m.
  • Soil testing laboratory.
  • Oil expeller unit.
  • Integrated Demonstration farm.
  • Orchard block.

 

Pattern of Assistance:

The 100% financial assistance is rendered by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi to KVK, Aizawl through ICAR-ATARI (Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute), Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya via the host Institute i.e. Central Agricultural University, Imphal.

KVK portal

  The KVK portal (http://kvk.icar.gov.in) was launched in 2017 to serve as a platform to provide the information and advisory to the farmers and also to facilitate online monitoring of the KVK activities. Prior to this, the information related to KVK was not available at one place at the National Level, the farmers and other stakeholders had difficulty in accessing the information and also there was no online monitoring system at the National level to review and monitor the functioning of KVKs against the mandates and objectives.

 

Features of the Portal:

  • The portal provides provisions for online monitoring of KVKs which will include reporting of major events on regular basis and submission of monthly reports online.
  • The portal also provides information on different services provided by different KVKs.
  • Weather and Market related information can also be accessed by the farmers and others.
  • The forthcoming programmes will also be available on the website which will benefit farmers and youth in joining different training programmes being organized by KVKs.
  • Question and answer facility will also be available for the farmers.
  • The farmers and the Agricultural Officers may register themselves and seek different information’s related to KVKs.
